Multiple reports indicate that Florida State defensive coordinator Charles Kelly will be joining Jeremy Pruitt’s staff at Tennessee. Kelly has served on the Seminoles’ defensive staff since 2013 and has also made stops at Georgia Tech (2006–2012) and Nicholls State (2002–2005).
Kelly worked under Pruitt as a linebackers coach when Pruitt was FSU’s defensive coordinator in 2013. Kelly was named the Seminoles’ DC when Pruitt left for Alabama the following year. In 2017, Florida State finished with the No. 19 defense in America, allowing 331.1 total yards per game.
According to the Tallahassee Democrat, Kelly is expected to be named the Vols’ special teams coach and he will have some defensive coordinator responsibilities, as well.
